The Scottish Government have announced a consultation into the national speed limit on single carriageway roads; including the A96 and A90.
The proposed changes to the speed limit from the current 60mph to a new, slower 50mph would apply for all single carriageway roads to which the national speed limit currently applies.
The proposed changes to speed limits for goods vehicles (<7.5t) would apply for all single and dual carriageways in Scotland.
The Scottish Government claim is that this change in speed limits could lead to a 23% reduction in fatalities and an 18% reduction in serious injury.
However, the frustration is that the Scottish Government is focusing on this, instead of the much needed dualling of the A96 & A90.
Harriet Cross, your local MP for Gordon and Buchan, has been actively promoting the dualling of the A96 and A90, and the Scottish Conservatives are campaigning against this speed limit reduction.
