I have launched a petition calling for a banking hub in Ellon.
Petition:
We, the undersigned, urge LINK to reconsider the outcome of their recent Cash Access Assessment, which concluded that there is no gap in access to cash in Ellon and as such did not recommend that a banking hub be located in Ellon.
We believe having a banking hub in Ellon is essential to serve the needs of local residents and businesses.
Having lost all four banks since 2018, most recently in 2024, Ellon residents and those living in surrounding villages now have to travel to Aberdeen or Inverurie for in-person banking, which isn't feasible for many, especially the elderly or those without access to a car.
Several businesses in the area, in sectors including farming, hospitality and retail, rely on cash and banking at a branch as do many residents, who either cannot access or are uncomfortable using digital banking.
Considering that similar towns in the North East, including Huntly, Banff, and Forres, have been identified as suitable locations for banking hubs, it stands to reason that Ellon should also meet the criteria for one.
